What type of seating, signage, public art or other environmental features do you interact with in the public spaces of your neighbourhood?
When was the last time you sat on a public bench or street furniture during a walk in the neighbourhood? Was the furniture easy for you to recognize as seating? Was it easily accessible? What did you see while sitting on the bench? What sounds did you hear?
Not all of us think about the detailed design of streets and public spaces when navigating around the neighbourhood. For people living with dementia, these design decisions can make the difference between going for a walk comfortably, or staying at home because the outdoors does not feel safe.
