Working with different types of neighbourhoods

No two neighbourhoods are exactly alike.

Some neighbourhoods will already showcase many of the design strategies in Module 3 (Neighbourhood planning), such as wide sidewalks, great transit, and lots of local shops. For these neighbourhoods, design improvements for people living with dementia may focus more on street scale or detailed design decisions—for example, highly accessible crosswalks, placemaking and art, and other public space amenities.

Other neighbourhoods may lack the foundations for dementia-inclusive design, and therefore require a different design approach, with layers of design changes planned over time.
